Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (U): The govt sanctions construction of 56,368 houses

On Monday, The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs approved the construction of 56,368 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U). The decision was made at the 53rd Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee meeting.

"Let's get into the implementation and execution mode," said Durga Shanker Mishra, Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).

He urged States and Union Territories to ensure 100% completion and delivery of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana -U houses to all eligible recipients during the mission period.

A total of 11 states and UTs attended the Monitoring Committee meeting. The Minister asked the states to use the Online Mechanism (MIS) for the proper implementation and monitoring of the mission.

Mishra also reviewed the progress made on the Light House Projects (LHPs) and the Demonstration Housing Projects (DHPs). Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the Light House projects on January 1.

Under this project, houses are being built in Lucknow, Ranchi, Rajkot, Agartala, Chennai, and Indore.

The PMAY-U houses have been built in several stages. So far, the ministry added, more than 73 lakh houses have been grounded and nearly 43 lakhs have been completed.
