Flipkart group has acquired Scapic, an augmented reality (AR) company, for an undisclosed sum. Scapic is a cloud-based platform that enables the creation and publishing of AR and 3D content, and customer service through e-commerce and marketing.
With the acquisition of Scapic, Flipkart will acquire a 100% stake in the company and will include a team of developers and designers. This team will accelerate the company's efforts to provide deeper camera experiences, virtual storefronts, and new opportunities for brand advertising on its platform.
"This year has accelerated online adoption, be in education, communication, or shopping, where people prioritize health and safety. As we make focused investments in developing and nurturing the retail system, we are also committed to making our platform easier to navigate and richer for consumers in terms of content and experience” said Kalyan Krishnamurthy, CEO, Flipkart Group.
Scapic was founded in 2017 by Sai Krishna V K and Ajay P V and is based in Bangalore.
Scapic’s no-code platform helps create immersive experiences in categories like Fashion, Furniture, and Electronics. "We are very excited about the opportunity presented to expand this and enable millions of buyers in India to experience the potential of augmented reality," Sai Krishna V K and Ajay P V said in a joint statement.
Earlier this month, Flipkart took over the intellectual property of gaming startup Mech Mocha for an undisclosed amount as it seeks to develop new formats to drive user engagement on its GameZone platform. It also picked up a minority stake in Aditya Birla Fashion and Arvind Youth Brands.
