Deadline For Filing Income Tax Returns Extended To 31 August

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on 23rd July, Tuesday decided to extend ITR filing deadline for FY18-19 by a month till 31st August 2019. The due date for filing the Income Tax Returns has been extended from July 31, 2019, to August 31, 2019, for a certain category of taxpayers, as the Taxpayers were facing some difficulties in filing the returns. The individuals and businesses whose accounts need not be audited need to file their ITR by 31st July 2019 for the Financial Year 2018-19. This extension of the deadline is applicable to all, except the Corporate Taxpayers and a few other non-corporate organisations. You might be interested in checking out this one

The regulatory body of the Income Tax Department issued a statement saying that the utility software update process for these models does not delay or prevent the submission of returns, the deadline of which is 31st August 2019.

 

The deadline for filing ITR for individuals in previous years has also been extended for several reasons, including Giving more time to link PAN-Aadhaar, the e-filing website crashing down due to heavy traffic etc.

Apparently, some taxpayers faced difficulties in filing their tax returns for many reasons, namely, extending the date of issuing Form 16, TDS (Tax deducted at Source) certificate issued by the employers.

 

This move was as a result of an effort to enhance the clarity in the filing of the returns and facilitate the assessment by getting more accurate details.
