AI can be very harmful if deployed wrongly: Pichai Expresses Concerns

Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming various industries, but it also has its downsides. Google's CEO, Sundar Pichai, recently expressed his concerns about the potential harm that AI could cause if deployed inappropriately. According to him, the negative side of AI keeps him up at night and called for new regulations to govern AI.
Pichai emphasized that the pace at which technology is evolving outstrips society's ability to think and adapt as institutional entities, creating a mismatch. However, he believes that people are becoming more concerned about AI's implications, and thus serious conversations have started. According to Pichai, AI will have an impact on all products of every company, and it could potentially affect the roles of knowledge workers such as writers, accountants, architects, and software engineers.

Pichai also called for the need to quickly adapt to AI regulations in the economy, laws to punish abuse, and treaties among nations to make AI safe for the world. He cited the need for consequences for creating deepfake videos that cause harm to society.



Recently, Google launched an AI-powered chatbot, Bard, as a response to ChatGPT. Pichai acknowledged that Google does not entirely comprehend how its AI technology produces certain responses, much like the human mind.

Microsoft's ChatGPT and other comparable AI technology integrations have prompted rivals to launch similar products and companies to incorporate them into their apps and products. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has also called the development of AI the most significant technological advancement in decades.
