World Bank on Friday announced the appointment of Anshula Kant as Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer of the World Bank Group. Kant is currently a Managing Director of the State Bank of India (SBI), where she previously served as Chief Financial Officer.
Kant, an Indian native, is a graduate in Economic Honors from Lady Shri Ram College for Women and a Postgraduate in Economics from Delhi School of Economics. Her start date has not been announced.
She is also a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers in 1990. She started her career with SBI in 1983 as a Probationary Officer. An interesting fact to note is that when she had joined SBI, she was told, "Beyond part 1 and part 2 there is a part 3 in our banking exams, that was dealing with unions and pleasing bosses to manage promotions and transfers. However, throughout my experience, I have felt that these were all myths.”
Anshula Kant is married and is blessed with two children, a son, and a daughter. Her husband, who is a Chartered Accountant, works out of Varanasi. Their son, Siddharth is settled in New York and daughter Nupur is based out of New York. She believes that the family and the SBI's residential colonies have been her biggest support systems. She cannot imagine how she would be able to manage things without their contribution, it is because of them that she has been able to pursue her career and rear her children. But more than that, what gave her the impetus was the fact that working for a state-owned undertaking was not as bad as people make it out to be.
Kant is currently serving as the managing director of the State Bank of India (SBI), where she previously served as Chief Financial Officer. "She's excelled at a different array of leadership challenges including risk, treasury, funding, regulatory compliance, and operations. As the CFO of SBI, Anshula Kant managed USD 38 billion of revenues and total assets of USD 500 billion. She has improved the capital base and focused on the long-term sustainability of SBI within her mandate. She has been a Managing Director and member of the Board since the year September 2018.
With the direct responsibility for the SBI's Risk, Compliance, and Stressed Asset Portfolio, Anshula Kant led the creation of investment opportunities, while empowering the risk management across the bank. She has completed many positions throughout the organization and leadership challenges of a different array of navigates to help. World Bank release stated.
Ms. Kant will be responsible for financial and risk management and report to Mr. Malpass. Her duties will include risk management and financial reporting and she will work with the Bank’s CEO to mobilize financial resources.
