Zomato-owned Blinkit has launched a new EMI payment option for customers, effective Thursday. This facility is applicable for orders exceeding Rs 2,999 but excludes purchases of gold and silver coins. The quick-commerce platform aims to enhance product affordability and facilitate better financial planning for its users.

Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa shared the news on X, stating, “We have introduced buying with EMI on Blinkit! EMI options will be available on all orders above Rs 2,999 (excluding those containing gold and silver coins). We believe this will improve affordability and enable better financial planning for our customers.”

Reactions from Social Media Users

The announcement received a mix of responses on social media. Many users expressed enthusiasm for the new feature, with one user stating, “You will replace Amazon soon! Way to go, Just Blinkit!” Another remarked, “I’m starting to see the vision to be king of the jungle. Rooting for you guys!”

However, not all feedback was positive. Some users raised concerns about the implications of buying groceries in installments. One user warned, “Disaster in the making for personal finances!” Another noted, “EMI on basic necessities like groceries is a recipe for disaster for a generation struggling with low savings and high debts. You would make folks go bankrupt by introducing such cheap thrills,” voiced another critic.

Additional Developments

In a related move, Blinkit also announced the launch of its Seller Hub, aimed at simplifying the selling process for brands. The Seller Hub allows brands to sell through Blinkit without needing intermediaries, enhancing convenience and efficiency. This initiative takes inspiration from Amazon's Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) service, which handles storage, packing, shipping, returns, and customer service for sellers.

Overall, while Blinkit's EMI option aims to make shopping more accessible, it has sparked a broader conversation about financial responsibility among consumers.
