Elon Musk announced on Monday that he would ban Apple devices in his companies if Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS level.
Musk raised significant security issues, deeming the integration to be a "security violation that cannot be accepted." He highlighted the fact that both employees and visitors would need to leave their Apple gadgets at the entrance, where they would be kept in a Faraday cage to block electronic communication.
This announcement was made shortly after Apple introduced several AI features at its WWDC 2024 event. Notable additions were the unveiling of Apple Intelligence, a major AI-powered upgrade to Siri, as well as the release of new OS versions: iOS 18, iPadOS 18, VisionOS 2, macOS Sequoia, and WatchOS 11. Apple has also revealed a collaboration with OpenAI to incorporate ChatGPT technology into its products.
Apple confirmed to users that its AI advancements put privacy first, utilizing a combination of on-device processing and cloud computing to uphold security. Nonetheless, Musk remained unconvinced, lambasting Apple's dependence on OpenAI and raising doubts about their capacity to guarantee data safety and confidentiality.
The tech company in California is upgrading the Control Center to provide a more tailored and flexible user experience. Soon, users will have the ability to add controls from third-party apps, adjust the control layout, and customize the controls on the lower lock screen.
CEO of Creative Strategies, Ben Bajarin, stated that it is unlikely for others to agree with Musk's position. He described how Apple's plan includes teaching users about the security of private cloud systems, which offer the same level of data anonymization and protection as on-device storage.
Musk's critique is made more complex by his connection to OpenAI, a company he helped create back in 2015. At the beginning of this year, he initiated legal action against OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, alleging that they strayed from their initial purpose of developing AI for the benefit of society and now focus on profit-making objectives.
