On Wednesday, Meesho announced its integration with the Open Government Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) to help connect buyers with local sellers and support India's vision of creating an inclusive e-commerce ecosystem.
"In keeping with Meesho's mission to democratize online commerce for all, the integration will enhance product discoverability for consumers and create a broader marketplace for local vendors. The pilot program will first launch in Bangalore and will be it will gradually roll out to other locations over the coming months,” the company said in a statement.
Meesho also added that 80 per cent of its Rs 14 crore annual transaction customers come from Tier 2+ cities, and that the company has been instrumental in improving access for disadvantaged users across the country. Currently, more than eight lakh sellers are registered on the platform, of which around 40 percent are from Tier 2 cities and beyond.
Meesho is making e-commerce more inclusive and believes the integration with ONDC will enhance the company's efforts in this direction.
