"Our efforts to engage startups are in line with Prime Minister Sabka Prayas' motto of making India a global manufacturing hub. Our relationship with IIT Bombay

Maruti Suzuki India partnered with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay to boost innovation programs for startups on Thursday.

"Our efforts to engage startups are in line with Prime Minister Sabka Prayas' motto of making India a global manufacturing hub. Our relationship with IIT Bombay is an effort in that direction," said Maruti Suzuki, Managing Director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi.

The major automaker has signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE), IIT Bombay to expand its innovation programs for start-ups.

As part of this initiative, Maruti Suzuki and SINE will jointly shortlist startups for some of the complex business issues identified by the company.

It will also support SINE in networking and incubating potential start-ups that can be part of Maruti Suzuki's innovation programs. Together, they will screen applications and host workshops with mentors, industry experts, and investors.

SINE CEO Poyni Bhatt recalled that 40 years ago, Maruti Suzuki started its journey with just one car, the Maruti 800 and today it has changed the landscape of the automotive industry.

"As the sector gets ready to expand even more, it presents a lot of opportunities for fledgling startups. We are excited to partner with Maruti Suzuki and, by leveraging our strengths, we are poised to enable startups to reach the next level with innovative solutions," he added.
