Aditya Birla Group partners with Galeries Lafayette to launch luxury department stores

Galeries Lafayette is famous for its luxury boutique on Boulevard Haussmann in Paris. India's flagship stores will bring more than 200 luxury and designer brand

On Thursday, the news announced that Aditya Birla Group partners with Galeries Lafayette. Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited (ABFRL) has strategically partnered with Galeries Lafayette to open luxury boutiques in Mumbai and Delhi. They will also open a dedicated e-commerce platform in India.

Galeries Lafayette is famous for its luxury boutique on Boulevard Haussmann in Paris. India's flagship stores will bring more than 200 luxury and designer brands under one roof.

"This is the coming-of-age moment for Indian luxury. India is now home to a generation of young, wealthy consumers with global exposure, who are willing to spend on the finer things in life. This is evident in the thriving and dynamic luxury market,” said Ashish Dikshit, Managing Director of Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited, the partnership with Galeries Lafayette is a strong affirmation of India's importance as a global luxury market and future engine for growth Luxury brands.

Its 90,000 square foot flagship store in Mumbai is expected to be operational in 2024, while the 65,000 square foot store in Delhi is expected to be operational in 2025.

“Partnering with Galeries Lafayette is a strong affirmation of India's importance as a global luxury market and future growth engine for luxury brands,” said Ashish Dikshit, CEO of ABFRL.

Galeries Lafayette CEO Nicolas Houzy said the expansion into India is part of his goal to establish 20 stores outside of France by 2025, "with a primary focus on China, Asia and the Middle East."

The luxury retailer already has a network of 65 stores in France and abroad.
