On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the State Bank of India announced that it will adopt 30 remote villages across India under the 4th phase of the 'SBI Gram Seva' program on Sunday.
Under SBI's master plan, the bank will embrace remote villages in the ambitious districts of Haryana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
Launched under the Bank's Corporate Social Responsibility, the program emphasizes the comprehensive development of villages through active intervention in areas such as education, health, livelihoods and infrastructure. As of now, the program has adopted 100 villages across 16 states in 3 phases.
"SBI has always strived to contribute to building a strong and developed rural India. Gram Seva is one of SBI's leading CSR programs working in this direction. Today, I am pleased to announce the launch of the fourth phase of the program in a new group of 30 targeted villages spread across 6 states, and I believe that our joint efforts will bring these villages closer to realizing the dream of Mahatma Gandhi in love with Swaraj,” Shri Dinesh Khara, Chairman of SBI, said on the occasion.
Shri Sanjay Prakash, Managing Director and CEO of SBI, also expressed his happiness at the successful completion of the five-year SBI Gram Seva scheme.
With this launch, the scope of the program will be extended to a total of 130 villages, of which 75 are aspirational districts notified by NITI Aayog, Government of India. Sixteen of the 17 LIS departments in the country fall within the scope of the scheme. SBI Corporation, the Bank's corporate social responsibility arm, is active in areas such as rural development, health care, education, sustainability, environment, livelihoods, skills development, etc. Many of its programs focus on empowering youth and promoting sports activities in the country.
Being one of the widely spread bank in the country, SBI's corporate social responsibility schemes are also prevalent in 28 states and UTs of India. The Bank also cooperates within the framework of corporate social responsibility initiatives with other entities for the comprehensive development of society.
