What is Dunzo?
Dunzo is an Indian startup that offers on-demand service that is based in Bengaluru, Karnataka. It is still a small company as compared to its rival firms namely, UrbanClap and HouseJoy that have been backed by millions through the venture funding.
Dunzo provides its delivery services in the Indian cities of Bengaluru, Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Pune, Chennai, Mumbai and Hyderabad. They also operate a Bike Taxi service in Gurgaon, Haryana. Dunzo has been funded by Google. A total of $12 million has been raised from Google, Aspada Investments as well as Blume Ventures. The company has been founded by Mr Kabeer Biswas, Ankur Agarwal, Dalvir Suri, and Mukund Jha, in the year 2014.
Mr Kabeer Biswas was the former co-founder of Hoppr (a hyperlocal deals company based in Gurgaon) which was then acquired by Hike Messenger in the year 2014. After which, he moved to Bengaluru where he was joined by Mukund Jha and Ankur Aggarwal and Dalvir Suri. All four of them are the co-founders of Dunzo.
Biswas said in a statement, “While the other on-demand service providers usually gather some merchants and vendors on their platform and then they will ask the customers to figure out how they want to use these services."
Dunzo is a firm that helps you to find people who are willing to run errands for you like getting the shopping lists done or picking up and dropping off the phone chargers if you forget to bring to work. In fact, with the holiday season coming near, there is so much gift-shopping to do juggling alongside office work, due to this many people prefer to get the work done through a third party.
The co-founder of the delivery service app says, "It may seem new to some, but at the same time you will find it surprising about how much interest this app has generated among the people." He added that "This is a way to reduce the burden of small jobs that kind of require too much effort, and helped them to prioritize there most important work.
Dunzo helps its users to hire people who are willing to carry out the various odd jobs for people with hectic schedules. The service helps to get a courier picked up from a far part of the city or get anything repaired, reduce the need for paperwork etc. With the help of this app, even if someone needs to buy something from a particular place, they can easily carry out that task on the app without having to physically go anywhere.
How does Dunzo work?
First, the users create a to-do list on the
Dunzo App, then through an algorithm, the best place to complete the task will be determined as well as the best worker to get the job done. This will be based on various factors such as location, the job history of the worker and also the credit rating of the user.
After the worker and the user are paired, the user can easily edit, add or cancel any task they want to by utilising the chatbot on the Dunzo App. The user can also send photos that are relevant to the task if the need is more specific as per the founders. For Dunzo example, if I need to buy a moisturizer of a certain brand then I just have to send the image of it to the worker and then it will be easier for him to look for it and complete the task.
The completion of the transactions depends on the credibility of the user too. If the user has good dunzo credit and the task is to buy an iPhone, you need not pay beforehand. On the other hand, if the user has low credit, then you may be required to pay beforehand so that any disputes are avoided later on.
Dunzo History
Initially, Kabeer Biswas had started the concierge service on Whatsapp in the year 2015 where he had run the tasks for people himself. Then, he started to hire freelancers when more people approached for the services.
The Co-founder had also thought of starting a website. Mr Biswas had met Mr Dalvir and they were operating the beta version of the app and thereby completing approx 50-60 transactions in a day. The startup had got its fundings from Blume and Aspada and Google.
Biswas said in a statement that he had put in around Ra 25 lakh from his savings of the previous startup. These fundings will help the app to achieve technological advancement.
The company has grown a lot since it was founded in 2015. According to Biswas, the task times had improved from 70 minutes to around 45 minutes and along with efficiency, the number of daily transactions had increased and keeps on increasing each month.
When asked if the startup gets involved in any legal or criminal disputes, Mr Biswas replied that Dunzo is not directly involved in any transaction but it only performs the task of connecting users to the workers who may be willing to run errands for them. We are neither liable not have any information about the transaction going on between the user and the worker.
The app currently performs only three tasks, the pickup and drop off of the objects, purchases as well as repairs. Some tasks that are government-related such as pick up of PAN cards, renewals of passport, or submission of the paperwork to the Municipal Corporation are also taken care of.
