WhatsApp, the widely-used messaging platform owned by Meta, is reportedly working on a new feature that will enable users to create usernames for their profiles. According to WABetaInfo, a reliable source for WhatsApp updates, this feature aims to allow users to connect with others on WhatsApp without needing to share their phone numbers.
This privacy-oriented feature is currently in development and has been observed only on WhatsApp's web client so far. There are indications that it may be rolled out to other platforms in the future. WABetaInfo has provided a screenshot showing a toggle labeled 'Pick your username' and a text field below it where users can input their desired username.
During the setup process, users will have the option to select a unique username, provided it's available, which will serve as their exclusive identity on the app. This approach emphasizes privacy by allowing users to connect with others on WhatsApp without revealing their phone numbers.
For WhatsApp Business users, this feature will enable them to create a distinct username aligned with their brand identity, separate from their phone number. According to reports, the username creation feature is currently undergoing thorough testing and enhancements to ensure a smooth, secure, and reliable experience that meets the high expectations of WhatsApp users.
WhatsApp has recently introduced a 'Favorites' filter for chats and calls, aimed at enhancing user convenience. This new feature allows you to store your most frequently contacted contacts in one place, making it easier to connect with them quickly and seamlessly.
