On the occasion of the 164th Income Tax Day, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will join the celebration at the Plenary Hall, Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on Monday.
The program will start at 6:00 pm today. The day is celebrated on July 24 every year to raise awareness around the importance of taxes and encourage more and more people to pay taxes for the development of the nation.

“Union Finance Minister Smt. @nsitharaman will preside over the celebrations of the 164th Income Tax Day in the presence of Union Minister of State for Finance Shri @mppchaudhary today, 24th July 2023 from 18:00 IST onwards at Plenary Hall, Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi,” the Finance Ministry tweeted on Monday.
This year, the Income Tax Department exceeded its previous year's target of filing ITR 3 crore, days before the deadline. This year, the goal of filling out the Income Statement (ITR) was reached 7 days earlier in the year.
The Income Tax Department said on Wednesday that more than Rs 3 crore ITRs have been filed so far for income earned in the 2022-23 tax year, of which 91 percent have been verified electronically.
“Out of the Rs 3.06 crore ITRs filed up to 18th July 2023, Rs 2.81 crore have been electronically verified i.e. over 91% of the ITRs submitted have been electronically verified!
