Elon Musk has announced that Twitter Blue will cost $8 (about Rs 660) a month. Twitter Blue includes the coveted verification badge. On Tuesday, Twitter's new boss said he intends to increase subscriptions and make social networks less reliant on ads.

The twitter verified badge, essentially a blue tick, means that Twitter has confirmed that the account belongs to a person or company that you claim. The service is currently free to all, however this will be the first time users will be required to pay a fee to maintain a verified badge.

The 51-year-old Tesla CEO used Twitter to express his opinions over the new membership plan. In a tweet addressed to verified badge franchisees, Musk said pricing will be adjusted based on country and PPP.

"The current Twitter Lords and Peasants system to see who has or doesn't have a blue checkmark sucks. Power to the people! Blue for $8 a month," Musk said in a tweet, adding that the price would be would adjust for "country".." proportional to purchasing power parity.

In subsequent tweets from him, Musk went on to list the services that will be offered to subscribers. Musk said subscribers will get priority for replies, mentions and searches, which he says is necessary to combat spam and fraud.

Subscribers will also see fewer advertising and be able to post lengthy movies and music. Additionally, publishers who agree to cooperate with Twitter will receive a paywall bypass. Musk claims that this will provide Twitter with a cash stream to compensate content creators.

On the same subject, Musk said that there will be a secondary label under the name of public figures who already appear in the profiles of politicians.

The SpaceX chief acquired Twitter for $44 billion last week. Since the billionaire took over, he has fired several CEOs and the microblogging site is going through a lot of turmoil.
