EC rolls out digital voter ID cards: All you need to know

New Delhi: The Election Commission released the electronic version of the voter ID card bearing the voter photo on Monday to mark National Voter Day.

Here's everything you need to know about digital voter ID cards, or e-EPIC (photo voter identification cards):

* The electronic voter card is available in PDF format and cannot be modified. The voter can print it himself and laminate it if necessary.

* ID card can be stored in cell phones and downloaded to personal computers. It can also be stored in facilities like a digital locker.

* Voters from West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala and Puducherry going to the polls will be able to use the electronic voting card on voting days. Elections must be held in these states and on the territory of the Union between April and May.

* The digital card will eliminate the voter's need to obtain a new card every time there is a change in address due to immigration

* The traditional physical "PV" voter card will continue to be used.

* Digital Cards will eliminate waiting for EPIC's physical delivery after approval.

* All new voters registered during the 2021 Special Brief Review, who applied during the period from November to December 2020, and whose mobile phone number provided during the application is unique, will receive an SMS and will be able to download the e-EPIC between 25 and above January 31, 2021.

* All other public voters will be able to download the e-EPIC effective February 1, 2021, if they have a mobile phone number unique to the e-Roll. Instead, they will need to go through a (KYC) process before downloading the e-EPIC.

* Voters who lose or destroy their EPIC card will be able to download duplicate cards for free. Currently, this facility includes a payment of Rs 25.
