Flipkart adds 50,000 jobs right before the big sale of the holiday season

The E-commerce giant Flipkart said on Tuesday, 24th September 2019 that it has added more than 50,000 direct jobs ahead of the festive season. Flipkart is an e-commerce company based in Bengaluru, India. The company was founded by Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal in the year 2007. Flipkart has provided employment to lakhs of workers and is working on new initiatives to enhance the skills of the workers as well as provide them with employment. The directly employed workers will be given jobs in the supply chain, logistics and customer service departments. The festive season is approaching and the Big Billion Days Sales. Besides this, Flipkart said, that they will be increasing the number of indirect jobs by around 30% as compared to the previous year, through the network of sellers. This will result in the creation of around 6.5 lakh new indirect jobs during the festival season sales. A new initiative has been taken by Flipkart, popularly known as the Samarth initiative through which the company will provide a new business opportunity for around 1.35 lakh artisans across India.

The six day-long Big Billion Days Sale will start from 29th September 2019 and will go on till 4th October 2019. The CEO at Flipkart Group, Kalyan Krishnamurthy said, "The Big Billion Days sale is designed to add value to the lives of our customers, by providing them with a great selection of products and an optimum shopping experience during the much-awaited festival season. At Flipkart, however, our aim is to benefit the entire economy with our initiatives and that is exactly what our Big Billion Days aims to do. With new employment opportunities across geographies and the prospect of scaling the sellers’ businesses, we aim to stimulate local industries and foster the creation of a robust economy.”

The directly employed workforce will be spread across various jobs in the Supply chain department such as Flipkart Wishmasters, delivery executives, personnel operating in Warehouses, mother hubs and delivery hubs. For Flipkart's seller partners, training will be provided in the areas of warehouse management, packaging etc. 

The training has also been provided to the personnel in the handling of PoS machine, hand-held devices, scanners, ERPs (Enterprise Resource Planning), learning how to use various mobile applications, etc. They are also taught various aspects of the Customer service department.

The complete process of hiring and training of the workers is carried out in accordance with the National Skill Development Mission of the Government of India. This move will help in expanding the skills of the local workforce and increase their job opportunities.
