WhatsApp is trialing a new AI tool called 'Imagine Me'—here's how it works

WhatsApp, the popular messaging platform owned by Meta, has recently unveiled a new feature called 'Imagine Me' in select markets, starting with India. This innovative AI feature allows users to create personalized stickers or AI avatars using their own photos.

According to reports from WABetaInfo, which revealed a leaked screenshot, the 'Imagine Me' feature leverages Meta's AI chatbots. When users opt into this feature, they are prompted to upload several selfies. Using these photos, the AI generates customized stickers or avatars that users can use as profile pictures.

This addition aims to offer a unique way for users to express themselves beyond traditional profile pictures. Currently being tested in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.14.13 update, the 'Imagine Me' feature could soon become a creative and popular tool among WhatsApp users globally.

In addition, the ‘Imagine Me’ feature is said to be optional, requiring WhatsApp users to manually activate it in their settings before using it. This tool will allow users to customize their avatars with backgrounds like forests or space, enhancing their profile pictures.

This feature will roll out in future updates. Users can initiate it by typing “@Meta AI Imagine me.” Meta AI, powered by the Llama 3 large language model (LLM), is also available on Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger apps.
