Prime Minister Narendra Modi is poised to inaugurate a range of sanitation and cleanliness initiatives exceeding Rs 9,600 crore on October 2, 2024. This launch coincides with the 155th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and will take place at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, as part of the Swachh Bharat Diwas celebrations that commemorate a decade of the Swachh Bharat Mission.

Key highlights of the initiatives include:

• Urban Water and Sewage Management: More than Rs 6,800 crore will be allocated to enhance urban water supply and sewage systems through the AMRUT and AMRUT 2.0 programs.

• Ganga River Cleaning Efforts: The National Mission for Clean Ganga will see investments exceeding Rs 1,550 crore for ten projects focused on improving water quality and waste management in the Ganga basin.

• Biogas Projects: Under the GOBARdhan scheme, fifteen compressed biogas plants are planned, amounting to over Rs 1,332 crore.

The overarching theme for this year’s Swachhata Hi Seva campaign is "Swabhav Swachhata, Sanskaar Swachhata," which underscores a collective responsibility towards cleanliness and environmental conservation. Community engagement is expected to be a significant aspect of these initiatives, aiming to foster a nationwide commitment to cleanliness. This ambitious undertaking highlights the government's dedication to improving public health and environmental standards across the country.
