PM Modi meets Google CEO Sundar Pichai, discusses plans to expand India's electronics manufacturing ecosystem

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday engaged in a virtual conversation with Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet.

The discussion centered around Google's endeavors to bolster the electronics manufacturing sector in India, as detailed in an official press release. In particular, Prime Minister Modi commended Google's collaboration with HP to produce Chromebooks within the country, signifying progress in the 'Make in India' initiative.

The Prime Minister acknowledged Google's noteworthy 100 Languages initiative and advocated for the localization of AI tools in various Indian languages. He further encouraged Google to concentrate its efforts on AI tools that can enhance the quality of governance, and reinforce the importance of technology for the betterment of India.

Additionally, PM Modi received information about Google's forthcoming establishment of its global FinTech operations center at Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT) in Gandhinagar. The Prime Minister was apprised of Google's intentions to increase financial inclusion in India by leveraging the power and reach of GPay and Unified Payments Interface (UPI). This reaffirms Google's commitment to contributing to India's developmental trajectory.

In addition, Prime Minister Modi extended an invitation to Google to participate in the upcoming Global Partnership on AI Summit, slated to be hosted by India in December 2023 in New Delhi. The event highlights India's role in advancing AI on the global stage and represents a collaborative effort to shape the future of AI technology.

The conversation between Prime Minister Modi and Sundar Pichai underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in driving innovation and technological growth in India while enhancing the nation's global influence.
