In a major move, the government has allowed booster doses or what it calls precautionary doses of the Covid vaccine for all adults from April 10, 2022.
Precautionary doses will be available at private vaccination centers.
There will be no change to the current vaccination schedule for the first and second doses, as well as booster doses for healthcare workers, frontline workers and those over 60 years of age.
The ongoing program of free vaccination through government vaccination centers for the first and second doses, as well as the precautionary dose for health workers, front-line workers and the population over the age of 60, will continue and accelerate.
Nearly 96% of the population over the age of 15 received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while nearly 83% of the population over the age of 15 received both doses.
The number of COVID cases in the country has seen a sharp decline with states now relaxing mandates that have been put in place to control the spread of infection.
Most of the COVID restrictions have now been lifted. Experts have called for giving the booster doses to all adults as it would significantly enhance the antibodies to fight COVID.
