The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) estimates a business worth Rs 4.25 trillion in just 23 days of this year's Indian wedding season.

Between November 23 and December 15, around 3.5 million weddings are expected to be held, according to a survey by the Association for Business Research and Development (CAIT). These weddings will result in purchases and services amounting to an estimated Rs 4.25 trillion, according to the survey.

In the comparable period last year, nearly 3.2 million weddings were held, resulting in trade worth Rs 3.75 trillion, the report added, citing the survey.

According to the survey, of the total estimated weddings this year, 10 percent, or 3.5 lakh are expected to be held in Delhi alone.

Of the total weddings, an estimated 50,000 will fall into the luxury category, with expenses of Rs 1 crore or more, according to CAIT national president BC Bhartia and general secretary Praveen Khandelwal. Another 50,000 will involve expenses of up to INR 50 lakh per wedding, while around 6 lakh weddings will be where the estimated expenses will be around INR 25 lakh.

It is estimated that the bulk of the weddings, nearly 1.2 million, will incur expenses of around INR 10 lakh, while another 1 million weddings will incur expenses of around INR 6 lakh each.
