WhatsApp has introduced a new feature that allows users to use the same account on multiple devices. Users of the messaging service can now use their WhatsApp account on four devices at the same time. The Meta website says the new feature allows users to connect each device to an individual WhatsApp and ensure end-to-end encryption of messages, media and calls. If the primary device remains inactive for a long time, all the paired devices connected to the WhatsApp user account will be automatically removed.

WhatsApp says connecting phones as companion devices will make messaging easier for users, allowing them to switch devices without leaving and picking up the conversation where they left off. The system will also make things easier for small business owners and the business operator would now reply to customers through a business WhatsApp account.



The messaging service has announced an "alternative and accessible" method of connecting companion devices. The new feature has launched globally and will be available to all users worldwide in the coming weeks. Instead of scanning a QR code, WhatsApp Web allows users to enter their mobile numbers to receive an instant code. They can then use the code on their phone to initiate device pairing.

The new feature came at a time when the Meta site is trying to step up its efforts to protect the privacy of its users. Recently, in a new update, WhatsApp allowed its users to automatically upload their WhatsApp status to their Facebook story by enabling the feature.

Earlier this year, WhatsApp added a secret audience selector for status updates. This allows users to specify who can see updates to their status.
