Aishwarya Rai Bachhan has recently invested 5 billion in environment intelligence Bengaluru based startup ‘Ambee’ alongside with her mother, Brindya Rai.  The startup is basically based on environment checkup on air quality. According to a document viewed by paper.vc

The Ambee was founded by the Hackathon winners, Akshay Joshi, Jaideep Singh, and Madhusudan Anand, conducted by amazon at Bengaluru. Google head India, Rajan Anandan priorly funded the startup.

This is not Aishwarya’s first investment in a clean startup. Around ten years prior, she invested in a similar type of environment project in Maharashtra, based on wind power.

Recently in the past few years, many Bollywood actors are taking an interest in supporting or backing up such type of startups. These include Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, and Akshay Kumar, etc.

Deepika Padukone invested a disclosed amount in drum foods international Pvt. Ltd. Akshay Kumar invested in fitness tech startup GOQII, deals in wearable devices. After it, he joined the company’s board as brand ambassador and partner.

Ambee was started in 2017 by Jaideep Singh, Madhusudan Anand, and Akshay Joshi. In 2018 Ambee raised a disclosed amount from US-based startup venture catalyst. The startup is currently part of Accelerator Tech star.

Ambee has already set up its air quality monitors with data installed over 100 sensors in Bengaluru.

India has seen several such startups dealing in air purifying due to the growth of pollution in different cities across India. These types of startups are in the growing sector in India. As such kind of technology nano clean technology is also recently used that claims to turn air conditioner in the air purifier. The startup comes from IIT Delhi, which was awarded as ‘National Startup’ by Pranab Mukherjee, former President of India for its $10 cost price nano filters used for dealing with pollution in Delhi.

By supporting such type of startups, people are coming one step closer to saving the environment from pollution. Many people inhale contaminated air coming from pollution; a regulatory checkup is needed to examine the amount of pollution in particular. Though finding a way for checking the amount of air pollution is not difficult but expensive.

However, researchers at institutes are taking such type of challenges to create a comfortable and cheaper available device to have a regulatory check on the environment and coming to an idea of bringing such devices by various types of startups. These startups are happening in the knowledge of the environment of loving people who also help these startups to move away forward.

A high accurate such type of air pollution measuring device cost around $ 150,000 pieces, which is not readily available in India. According to the World Health Organization, there should be one air quality check sensor in 1 square kilometer. And in the city like Delhi having around 1500 km square area, there should be 1500 air quality check sensor.

Solving these costs involving many problem institutes like IIT Bombay, researchers are working on such types of projects so that they can bring ease in the price of the device. A team of 5 members is prepared by Professor Rajesh Zele from Electrical department, IIT Bombay. The team is working on a project of making such devices which have the cost of around $20,000 each which can perform most of the things which high-end equipment can deliver. This project is currently done in collaboration between IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IISC and Duke University, US.

If the project works, Zele is going to use the sensor across the campus of IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur and in the whole city by the end of the year. On the other hand, Ambee has 100 sensors across Bengaluru, 250 sensors across India, and eight different countries.

Ambee is contacting some E-commerce companies to sell the device with other products like cosmetics, air purifiers, and other products related to air quality locally.
