Death toll rises to 164 in Kerala Flood; Here is How you can Help.

The death toll has reached 164 in flood kit Kerala since the 8th of August. It is expected that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reach Kerala today in order to undertake an aerial survey of the damaged areas.

A slight reduction in the rain intensity over the next 48 hours has been indicated by the Indian Meteorological Department on Thursday. Central Kerala is in a very bad shape while the situation in Kozhikode is still improving. The rain claimed 30 lives on Thursday, swamping homes and destroying roads. The Indian navy began airlifting marooned people in Muvattupuzha, Aluva and Trichur. Kerala has opened 36 of its 39 dams for the first time in history. The Cochin International Airport will remain closed until the 26th August due to flooding in and around the airport. There is a red alert issued in all the 14 districts of the state.

This is the heaviest rain and flood in Kerala since 1924. Union tourism minister and former Kerala MLA KJ Alphons met the Prime Minister, Finance Minister, Home Minister and Defence Minister to discuss the situation in the state.

You can help the victims of Kerala funds by donating to the Chief Minister’s relief fund. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan seemed more help from the Prime Minister and sought additional army personnel and helicopter to control the situation. Rahul Gandhi has urged Congress workers to help in the relief while Rajnath Singh announced INR 100 crore as an immediate central relief. Preliminary estimates suggest that the state has suffered a loss of INR 8,316 crore due to the heavy rains, flood and landslides. Thousands of people have been currently accommodated in the relief camps set up across different areas which include Wayanad where more than 14,000 people are sheltered.
