The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is more or less the upgraded version of more affordable Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus.  We’ve compared the similarities and dissimilarities between the two phones across every major category, so you can decide which to choose from, according to your criteria.

PRICE:

The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus has its price starting from Rs.61000 approximately while the Galaxy S8 Plus is available at around Rs48000 which is cheaper for almost the same specifications.

DISPLAY AND DESIGN:

There’s a very little difference between them with respect to the dimensions. The S9 Plus is only a little heavier than its precursor. The screens of both the phones are much the same and are ready with a standard 6.2-inch AMOLED screen with 2,960 x 1,440 resolutions.

One stark difference is the addition of stereo speakers in the S9 Plus. It also has a vertically stacked camera system with dual-lens, distinct from the single lens present on the other phone. The fingerprint sensor for the former has also been changed to a new location which is below the camera lenses.

CAMERA:

The camera comes with a dual sensor 12-megapixel lens which is present for the Galaxy S8 Plus and has one on the back which comes with an 8-megapixel lens.  Both the phones take good pictures, although taking pictures is not up to the mark in case of low-light situations.

The back of the S9 has two 12-megapixel lenses composed of one wide-angle with a changeable aperture of f/2.4 and f/1.5 and the other telephoto lens with an aperture of f/2.4. Its video ability has also been enhanced. It can also record video at an extremely super-slow-motion frame rate of 960, in contrast to the 240 fps of the S8 Plus.

BATTERY BACKUP AND CHARGING:

In comparison to the camera, there’s a slight difference here. Both of them have the same battery capacity of 3,500mAh.

SOFTWARE:

The Samsung Smartphones generally run on a Samsung’s version of Android and these two phones are no exception. Both the phones run on the Samsung UI over Android and the company has steadily built its edition of Android into a UI they can be proud of. The S9 Plus runs on the latest version of Android 8.0, with the latest Samsung Experience 9.0 on top of it.

Overall:

The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus seems like it has a better camera than the Galaxy S8 Plus. It also has smaller bezels, more power, as expected, and there is twice as much inbuilt storage, which could be useful if you like to store a lot of media on your phone.

But in most ways, it is also very similar to the S8 Plus, especially when it comes to the overall design, the screen, and the battery.

Other than the camera Samsung has apparently paid attention to polishing rather than changing its flagship series, so if you want a totally new phone you should wait for the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus or the Galaxy X.
