Amazon is the most visited shopping site in the country but for the founder, Jeff Bezos, it is still Day 1 in the second most important market for the firm outside the United States. In a letter to the customers, Bezos stated that Amazon has customers in 100 percent serviceable pin codes in India and is shipping packages from more than 50 fulfillment centers located across 13 states.

Bezos stated that the online market place has become a part of the culture of the country and has adapted its services accordingly. Amazon India is the most visited site in the country and has captured the top spot for the last two years. It recently completed its five years in India and has managed to reach the top while taking on local favorites like Flipkart and Snapdeal. He also stated that the company is working with thousands of third party developers in order to increase the capabilities of Alexa, its voice assistant.
Over the period of five years, Amazon grew from one seller to three lakh sellers and in the last one year, it expanded the network of third party affiliates to ensure that the sellers from non-metros and small towns also get easy access and support to start and manage their business online. Amazon pushed more than $3 billion in the India operations and Amazon Seller Services, its India unit has received more than $1.28 billion during 2017-18 from the US parent.
Further, investments of $5 billion have already been committed by Bezos for the Indian market. With Walmart planning to expand operations of Flipkart, the investment in India by Amazon will increase significantly over the next few months. Investment has also been made in Amazon Pay and its wholesale business. It is in preliminary discussions with Indian hypermarket, supermarket and retail companies for a stake in one of the firms. It plans to increase its offline reach in India. Sources said Future Group’s founder Kishore Biyani indicated that he was ready to sell a stake to Amazon after the announcement of the Flipkart-Walmart deal. Like in the United States, Amazon wants to expand its reach in the retail. It has held discussions with some of the companies but it is in an early stage.
