Global messaging app WhatsApp is planning to stop services for the users of certain devices from 31st December onwards. The users of BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10 and Windows Phone 8.0 will no longer be able to enjoy the services of the world’s most popular messaging platform.

Further, WhatsApp mentioned that the devices which run Nokia S40 operating system will also be decommissioned on the 31st December 2018. However, WhatsApp has been announcing the withdrawal of the services from S40 devices and BlackBerry devices since February last year. WhatsApp stopped its services on the Nokia S60 platform since June this year.

WhatsApp mentioned that these OSes once dominated the market and have been replaced to maintain its position. The mobile devices were once an important part of the growth story of WhatsApp but they do not offer the kind of capabilities that they need to expand their features in the future. WhatsApp further mentioned that it has been a tough call but the right one in order to help people find better ways to keep in touch with their loved ones using WhatsApp.

WhatsApp on Android versions 2.3.7 and older will also stop working but that will be from 1st February 2020. This shows that it is time to upgrade to a newer Windows 10, iPhone or Android if you are using one of the above mentioned devices. Based on the recent reports by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp Web bearing the version number 2.7315 had received two new changes which include a picture in picture mode and a private reply feature. The WhatsApp Beta app version numbered 2.17.424, 2.17.436 and 2.17.437 for the users on Ios, Windows Phone and Android had received various additional features like tap to unblock a user, revised admin settings, shake to report and a new invite via a link shortcut feature.
